Tech Together Session: Building Team Cohesion and Leadership Synergy

On 11 October 2024, Flexisource IT hosted a collaborative training session aimed at empowering its management team with the skills necessary to build a stronger, more cohesive workforce. Titled “Tech Together Session: Building Team Cohesion and Leadership Synergy,” the training was designed to enhance both individual and collective growth by focusing on trust, character, and competence.

About the Speaker: Jessa Loraine Jumao-as

Jessa Loraine Jumao-as, RPM, CLDP, is a highly regarded Learning and Development leader with over nine years of experience in leadership development and organisational culture-building.

As the Global Manager for Learning and Development at VXI Global Solutions, Jessa has crafted data-driven frameworks that align leadership initiatives with business strategies across regions like the US, Jamaica, and the Philippines. Her expertise includes coaching, mentoring, mental health advocacy, and succession planning.

Similarly, Jessa has led numerous leadership development initiatives, including mental health advocacy, cross-cultural facilitation, and succession planning. Her experiences and psychology background bring a strategic approach to cultivating team leadership and trust. 

She is a highly sought-after speaker and facilitator in leadership development.

Key Training Highlights

Jessa began the discussion with a powerful statement: “Extraordinary teams are built by extraordinary team members.” This set the stage for the core message of the day. “All great teams start with leadership, and at the heart of effective leadership lies trust.”

With that, Missy delivered her opening speech by welcoming the participants. She emphasised that this training is aimed for participants to learn, enhance teamwork, and grow together. She reminded everyone with the importance of collaboration and a united company culture.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in a series of dynamic activities and discussions, all aimed at fostering a culture of trust and collaboration within their teams. The training focused on:

  • Develop self-trust as the cornerstone of building trust with others
  • Explore strategies to enhance personal credibility and trustworthiness
  • Learn tools to identify and address dysfunctions that undermine trust within teams
  • Participate in hands-on activities to apply these strategies in real-world scenarios

Collaborative Group Exercises

The session included several interactive exercises that encouraged team members to deepen their understanding of trust and collaboration:

  • Storytelling Sessions. Attendees shared personal anecdotes and childhood experiences with their peers. This activity allowed participants to establish trust by connecting on a more personal level, breaking down barriers, and fostering camaraderie.
  • Pre-training Assessment Reflection. Another key task involved discussing the results of a pre-training assessment with a partner. This exercise encouraged honest reflection and open dialogue. It also helped the attendees to identify their strengths and areas for improvement in their approach to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Dos and Don’ts During Conflict. The group then moved on to a task focused on identifying the dos and don’ts in team discussions, especially when tackling issues and conflicts. This activity not only highlighted the importance of clear communication but also provided a framework for effective problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Strengths and Weaknesses Evaluation. Likewise, the participants were divided into their own departments to evaluate each other’s strengths and weaknesses. This activity helped build a deeper sense of trust and appreciation for individual contributions.
  • Sticky Note Exchange. Lastly, participants gave each other sticky notes, sharing thoughts, thanks, and apologies. This activity encouraged vulnerability and honesty, helping team members learn how to communicate more openly with one another.

Building Trust Through Collective Improvement

The session concluded with a powerful and symbolic exercise where participants held together as a group, embodying the goal of becoming a united company. The idea is to symbolise Flexisource IT as a company who can help each other grow and improve, resulting to the entire company’s success. 

This puts emphasis on contributing to the greater good, reinforcing the message that building extraordinary teams starts with individual growth and collaboration.
