Document Everything

One highly underrated tip is being organized with documentation. Even from the start of the project, it is important that everything is documented.

Contracts are just one of the many papers that need to be saved properly in the beginning of the project. They contain the terms and guidelines of both parties. It can be revisited every time there are questions as to how goals are aligned or what is expected.

Another overlooked detail are the project details themselves. Businesses often forget deadlines, requirements, and more. It is important that these details are well-documented for future reference.

In the event of turnovers and transitions, documentation will help new employees to get started on their new project. It will also make sure that the new hires or outsourced help will be able to follow procedures to the letter.

Set Milestones

Milestones are important in project management since it can be a gauge of progress. It is also often used in the agile software development. Developers will know how far they have gone as well as the project managers themselves.

During work hours, it should be worth noting that queries should be answered right away. Of course, it goes without saying that answers should be still accurate.

Expect the Unexpected

Even the best plans can fall through. In those cases, there should always be Plan B, Plan C, Plan D, Plan E, Plan F, and so on. While it may not be realistically possible to plan for every scenario, it would help to have contingency plans that can cover for most things.

One of the most common scenarios is that when a team member suddenly leaves in the middle of the project. It will leave a gap in the development, but that can quickly be resolved by outsourcing the task.

Holidays and natural calamities may also hamper development. Project management should include having backup plans for such cases in order to still move forward.
